I recall with glee my earlier days as a wino when I reveled in finding those under $10/bottle wine bargains.  Later, as my income increased, I thoroughly enjoyed finding great wines for under $15/bottle (and I still do).  Wino John and Wino Bob may critique my robber baron spending habits, but I try to keep the spectacular wine purchases on the expense account rather than the cellar budget.  Shopping through the internet, I've obtained some great wines at reasonable prices for that special occasion.

One of my favorite sites to visit is Wally's Wines.  No, I don't own the place, but liked the name and after I mentioned them in a long ago article on winostuff, they added me to their emailing list.  They have a wide variety of California Cabs and seem to be the place to go in Los Angeles if you want a hard to find wine.

Yesterday, I received one of my periodic emails from Wally's.  I opened it up and thought the 10% discount to be a great deal until I saw the net sale price.  It kind of reminds me of the sticker shock I suffered when I contemplated asking out a sorority girl vs. a hippie girl in college.  The conclusion is the same:  you've got to be going for image vs. taste to justify the pricing here!

No, I haven't lost my mind.  No wonder the real estate in Napa Valley has increased.  These cult wines are pricing themselves higher than exotic drugs (you can assume the medicinal definition or the herbal, it doesn't matter)!  I have pasted the flyer.  If any of you disagree with me, there's still time to order online from Wally's.  Let me know how the Screaming Eagle tastes!  I'm crossing that off of my list of wines to taste one of these days.
