Professional Golfers Association of Americawww.pga.com - All you wanted to know about the PGA of America.  The PGA sponsors the tournament of that name as well as the Ryder Cup.  Updates on those tournaments are possible through this site.  Note: the PGA of America is the group that certifies golf professionals, but is not the PGA Tour.  The Tour split from the PGA of America in 1966 or so when Nicklaus and Palmer led a revolt to get more money for the players.

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews - www.randa.org - The R&A is the official governing body for golf in over 100 nations (excluding the U.S.).

United States Golf Association/USGAwww.usga.org - The USGA sponsors all the major US amateur tournaments including the US Open for Men and US Open for Women.  The association is the major rules organization governing golf in the United States.  Consult the site for information on events, rules, membership, etc.  I enjoy purchasing their Christmas cards each year which feature funny golf events.

Tuttle Golf Collection - www.tuttlecatalog.com - Tuttle sells high end men and women's golf apparel.  I'm sure that you can find a lot of this in a well-stocked golf pro shop, but there aren't many of those out there these days that carry a wide variety of colors, shapes, and sizes.  For those of you who have the game (or for those of you who want to look like you have the game), Tuttle Golf's merchandise is for you.

 

Golf Courses

Golf Publications

Golf Digest.comwww.golfdigest.com - This is the online site of the monthly publication, Golf Digest.  Lots of info on golf instruction, opportunities to subscribe to its publications, as well as current information on golf.  Check out the annual golf course ratings to see how many of the top 100 courses that you’ve played.  My home course slipped to number 57 in 2001, but I still get a yes from Wino John when I invite him to play.  By the way, Wino John, Lighthouse Sound in Ocean City is the number 5 course in Maryland and one of only two public courses in the top 5.  Pine Valley, the perennial number one and a Jersey favorite of mine, slipped to number two in favor of Pebble Beach this year.  I believe this is the year that scenery slipped into the ratings formula.

Links - www.linksmagazine.com - This is the online site of Links, The Best of Golf.  If you're a golfer like me and don't give a &*#! about all those tips from the greatest golfers in the world who have never had a problem with their game that brought it down to our level than you'll like this magazine which mainly talks about great places to play golf (we may not have a scratch handicap, but we know where to play - Wino Wally).

Bad Golf Monthlywww.badgolfmonthly.com - “for the golfer who really sucks”  These guys are a more sophisticated version of WinoStuff.com for the serious golf duffer.  You can submit your scores for the worst score ever at certain golf courses.  An article about a hole in one has the title, “Yes, crappy golfers do get lucky!”  At the same time, there are serious links to sites around the world where you can arrange golf trips (www.myrtlebeachgolf.com is just one of many sites with links at this site).  The site is sponsored by TravelGolf.com.  This one’s worth checking out.

Honda Classic - www.hondaclassic.com - PGA Tour Men's event held in March in Florida.

The Masters Golf Tournament www.masters.org - Everything you want to know about the most recent Masters golf tournament.  I check this out hourly when the tournament is being played.  Better coverage than the networks, particularly if you’re at work.

The Open Tournament www.opengolf.com - The official website of the British Open.  Based on their outlook, there’s only one Open Tournament.  Lots of info on the tournament, past champions and championships, official merchandise, as well as info on how to get tickets and travel packages for the 2003 Open at Royal St. Georges from July 13 to July 20.

The PGA - www.pga.com - Site of the Professional Golfers Association of America, the group regulating all golf professionals.  You can also link to the 2003 PGA tournament from this site.  This year's event will be played in Rochester, NY at Oak Hill, site of the 1996 Ryder Cup, on August 11-17, 2003.

The U.S. Open - www.usopen.com - This is the site for the U.S. Men's Open.  The 2003 U.S. Open will be played at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Illinois from June 12 to June 15.
